The Mission

The property was acquired 7 years ago by Frank and Robyn Walton. Frank is a Bordeaux native who grew up in a family of winemakers from across the region.

Frank returned to his native region with the goal of making a vin du garage with a quality similar to that of the Grand Cru’s, but sold at a reasonable price.

Our Vineyard and Process

A few years ago, Frank started a program of renovation at the property and the installation of a new cuvier equipped with the latest technology from the region. No expense was spared to realize his dream.

The soil at CVP (Château Vieux Pujols) closely resembles that of St Emilion, and the care of the vines matches that of the most prestigious vineyards.

This includes the process of  vendange verte (removal of leaves to obtain optimum maturation), and always choosing quality over quantity.

The cuvier was designed by, Bruno Marchand, Frank's nephew and the successful owner of Chateau Haut Bonneau and President of the Syndicat des Producteurs de Montagne St Emilion.

Stainless steel cisterns equipped with temperature control (hot and cold) and computerized micro oxygenation, are used to minutely control the wine making process similar to that of St Emilion grand cru chateaux.

The vines are cared for by Christion and Florent Couderc, Pujols natives and owners of their own vineyard nearby.

Le maitre de chai, Alezzandro Grancini, graduated from Torino, Italy wine school and is maitre de chai for Chateau Vieux Pujols and another property in St Emilion.

He is helped and guided as well by Vincent Rouby, of St Emilion oenologie lab, whose clientele includes some of the most prestigious St Emilion chateaux.

Vincent assists Alessandro throughout the wine making process by providing detailed technology analysis on a weekly, sometimes daily basis, and continues to support through to the bottling stage.

With our 2022 harvest, we began allocating a portion of our harvest to be aged in oak casks for 12 to 18 months in order to bottle a premium vendange.

We also have a second wine named Chateau la Grande Maison, designed to be consumed within 5 to 6 years from production.

The Owners

Frank Walton moved in 1981 to Texas USA where he became an entrepreneur and managed several businesses, including a wine company which held a federal import license and Texas wholesale distributor license.

After purchasing Chateau Vieux Pujols from the Robin family, long time owners of the property, they have restarted the winemaking, renovated the chai, and replanted 2 hectares of vines.
